Above the Clouds, Together: Our VASS NDIS Group Outing to Arthur's Seat Eagle, Mornington Peninsula
The VASS NDIS group gathers at Arthur's Seat Eagle on a perfect day of sunshine, fresh air, and shared joy on the Mornington Peninsula.
Some days simply remind you why community participation matters, days when the outdoors, good company, and a shared sense of adventure come together to create something genuinely special. For our VASS NDIS participants, their recent outing to Arthur’s Seat Eagle on Victoria’s beautiful Mornington Peninsula was exactly one of those days.
Under a clear blue sky and warm winter sun, our group of participants and support workers travelled to one of Victoria’s most iconic and accessible outdoor destinations, enjoying everything the Arthur’s Seat Eagle experience had to offer from the exhilarating gondola ride high above the treetops, to breathtaking panoramic views across Port Phillip Bay and the Mornington Peninsula, to relaxed walks through the native bushland and warm conversation over refreshments at the top.
More than just a pleasant day out, the outing was a meaningful expression of VASS NDIS’s commitment to supporting our participants to live full, connected, and joyful lives, enriched by community, adventure, and the kind of shared experience that stays with you long after you return home.
The Day in Full: A Journey from Summit to Shore
Beautiful Sunny Weather Made the Outing Truly Special
From the moment the group arrived at Arthur’s Seat, the day was enhanced by genuinely beautiful weather, clear skies, warm sunshine, and a gentle breeze that made outdoor exploration a pure delight. For our participants, many of whom spend significant time indoors, the opportunity to be outside on such a perfect day was uplifting in the most natural and immediate way.
The bright, sunny conditions elevated everyone’s mood and energy from the start, setting the tone for a day that would be remembered warmly by all who attended.

Scenic Views and Natural Surroundings: A Feast for the Senses
Arthur’s Seat State Park rises 314 metres above sea level, offering some of the most spectacular views in all of Victoria. As our participants rode the Arthur’s Seat Eagle gondola, soaring quietly over native eucalypt forest and rolling farmland, the panoramic views that unfolded were nothing short of breathtaking.
Looking out across Port Phillip Bay, the winding coastline of the Mornington Peninsula, and the distant silhouette of the You Yangs, participants took in a landscape of extraordinary natural beauty. For many, it was their first time experiencing this iconic view and the sense of wonder it inspired was shared by everyone on board.
At the summit, the group explored scenic lookout points framed by ancient stone walls and towering gum trees, taking their time to absorb the views and breathe in the crisp, clean air of the Mornington Peninsula bushland.

Exploring Outdoors, Fresh Air, Walking, and the Freedom of Nature
Beyond the gondola, the group took full advantage of the stunning natural environment at Arthur’s Seat State Park. Participants enjoyed leisurely walks along the park’s accessible pathways, exploring the bushland, admiring the native flora, and pausing at viewpoints to soak in the landscape.
Walking in nature has well-documented benefits for both mental and physical well-being, reducing stress, improving mood, and encouraging gentle movement in a way that feels effortless and enjoyable. For our participants, the freedom of being outdoors, moving at their own pace, and exploring a beautiful natural environment was a genuinely therapeutic experience.
Support workers walked alongside participants throughout, offering assistance where needed and ensuring that every member of the group could engage with the environment at a level that felt comfortable and fulfilling for them personally.
Engaged Conversations and Shared Enjoyment
Throughout the day on the gondola, at the lookouts, over refreshments, and during the walks, the group was animated with genuine conversation and laughter. Participants shared their reactions to the views, reflected on the experience, and engaged with each other and their support workers in relaxed, natural ways.
These spontaneous moments of connection, chatting on a park bench with a stunning view behind you, laughing together over a hot drink, sharing the surprise of a particularly beautiful vista, are at the very heart of what social and community participation is designed to create. They are moments of genuine human connection, unscripted and unforced, born simply from being together in a wonderful place.

Why Outings Like This Are Central to NDIS Goals
The NDIS recognises that genuine participation in community life is one of the most powerful contributors to the well-being, independence, and quality of life of people living with disability. Community outings, particularly those that combine physical activity, natural environments, social interaction, and novel experiences, deliver outcomes that are difficult to replicate in any other setting.

Its fully enclosed, wheelchair-accessible gondola; its well-maintained park grounds with accessible pathways; and its spectacular natural setting make it an ideal outing for participants of varying abilities and needs.
At VASS NDIS, we are intentional about the outings we plan. We choose destinations that are genuinely enriching places that inspire, uplift, and connect because we believe our participants deserve experiences that are not just safe and supervised, but truly wonderful.
